Foreclosure Law Changes
Fri November 20, 2009, 1:00 am
by Bill Metzker

In 2010, if a lender wants to foreclose, it must first send the defaulting borrower a letter offering to modify the loan terms.  Lenders aren't obligated to change anything. They just have to try to before foreclosing.

Good news, if it's hard to make your mortgage payment and you live in Oregon.

It's a small step, but a good one, IMO. People facing foreclosure in Oregon have questions about loan modifications (such as, why do they take for effing-ever) and why they are, well, not what was expected, and what about a deed-in-lieu-of foreclosure, and do short sales hurt my credit as much as a foreclosure, and so on.

Changes in the law don't offer big changes in peoples' lives, but it's a start.
