A growing number of people, including this reporter, have huge misgivings about the first time buyer's tax credit and think care must be taken before extending it.  Read the MarketWatch article here.

I also suspect that many of the people taking advantage of this program would have bought houses anyway.  By bribing them to do it sooner, the government is taking away from future sales as well as rewarding, to a degree, some of the people that got us in this mess in the first place.

In the end, I think it will harm, rather than help, the overall Portland Metro real estate market.
